SIDNEY ANDREW CHRONISTER, JR.

DALLAS NC - Sidney Andrew Chronister of 103 Spencer Woods Drive, better known by family, loved ones and friends as Pete, born March 5, 1957 in Gastonia, lost his inspirational and courageous nine month battle with pancreatic cancer at his home on Sunday September 28, 2008. He was surrounded by his loving family and the prayers of many as he found peace. 

Pete was an employee of Duke Energy for thirty years with the majority of those years being spent at the McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville, NC. He held numerous job titles throughout his career within the corporation. His most recent position was Maintenance supervisor for the Reactor Head and Fuel Teams at McGuire. 

Pete was a pillar of the community and the town of Stanley. He has been an integral part of the Stanley Recreation Department for over thirty years. His titles have included Director, Coach, Umpire, Referee, Mentor and Peacemaker. This organization was very close to his heart as was each child he came into contact with and more recently the children of the children he first coached. He derived much joy even in the past nine months as he moved from an active participant to a spectator, cheerleader, and peacemaker in each sport. Additionally, Pete was a Shriner, a Third Degree Master Mason of the Stanley Blue Lodge #713, and a Thirty-Second Degree Member of the Scottish Rites. 

Pete was preceded in death by his parents Sidney A. Chronister, Sr. and Ilien Williams Chronister. Pete is survived by his loving wife of nearly thirty years Susan Green Chronister of the home, his three devoted children Melissa Danielle Chronister of Stanley, Jeremy Andrew Chronister and wife Andrea of Stanley, and Stephanie Michelle Chronister of the home. Pete's only grandchild, Tenyson Redell Chronister of the home, or T-Bo as he called him, brought joy to Bop Bop's life daily. He is also survived by three siblings Alan Chronister of McCormick, SC, Mark and Robin Chronister Wilkerson of Denver, NC, and Jeff and Brenda Chronister Dixon of Indian Trail, NC. He additionally leaves behind numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly. 

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 1, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Stanley, with Reverend Dr. Thomas Steagald officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family and Pete request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either of three organizations; The First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 217 North Main St., Stanley NC 28164, Hospice of Gaston County, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053, or to the Stanley Recreation Department, PO box 279, Stanley NC 28164. 

Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mt. Holly is serving the family of Mr. Chronister.
